George Eastman Entrepreneur and Philanthropist (July 12, 1854 – March 14, 1932) was an American pioneer of popular Photography who founded the Eastman Kodak, bringing Photography to the mainstream.
Visiting the world's oldest Photography Museum in Rochester NY simply connected the past to the present. What truly impressed me was stepping into an Obscura Camera (room 10x10) which put so much into perspective. It was fascinating to explore his historic mansion a landmark built in 1902 and see how he lived. Net worth: USD $95 million at the time of his unfortunate death (approximately $1.5 billion in 2017) A suicide note was found "My work is done, why wait" ending his legacy. Quotes: Light makes Photography. Embrace light. Admire it. Love it. But above all, know light. Know it for all you are worth, and you will know the key to Photography. *You press the button, we do the rest* What we do during our working hours determines what we have; what we do in our leisure hours determines what we are. The Ticonderoga is a side-paddlewheel passenger steamboat with a walking beam engine. Built in Shelburne, Vermont in 1906 operated as a day boat on Lake Champlain serving ports along New York & Vermont until 1953. In 1955 was moved to Shelburne Museum that now stands as one of the greatest feats of Maritime Preservation. Very impressive indeed exploring the massive engine, four decks, pilothouse, galley and crew's quarters. Quite elegant for its time, now open to visitor for a glimpse into the past. |
